About Kanjur Marg
Kanjur Marg, my home town, where the memories of my childhood still live even though I am miles away from my folks...

['About Kanjur Marg' by Neeta Correa. Neeta Correa is a co-ordinator for The Kanjur Folks in Bombay]
First of all, let me tell you that Kanjur Marg is still an unknown place for many people. Everyone still thinks that it is a small village somewhere out there. I say this because whenever I travel, people ask me where I stay, and when I tell them that I stay in Kanjur Marg, I get asked where the hell is this place. Generally speaking, Vikhroli and Bhandup, which are neightbouring towns, are more known places.
As a matter of fact, Kanjur Marg has some quite nice people living there, and since it is a small place everyone knows almost everyone out here.
A few years ago we had a very small church out here. But now if you come here you will be surprised to see a beautiful church, which was built taking into consideration the ever increasing population of Kanjur Marg. The church has a basement where we have all kinds of functions and wedding celebrations.
The annual 'KANJUR FETE' is also organised out here in the church basement. The fete was started some five years ago. It was started more as an entertainment programme. I was in the Youth Group then. However, now it has become more commercialised, in the sense that money is charged for everything. But in a way this is also right, as this money is supposedly used for good purposes, like funding the school fees for some needy children, teacher's salaries which have increased according to Government rules, parish development etc., which is a very good thing. The area behind the church has improved considerably with decent buildings coming up in what was earlier a very dirty place with slums.
